What Are The Different Types Of Work Permits in Canada?

Working in Canada comes with its own perks. Be it the culture or the people, Canada is considered to be one of the best places to work and live in. With a high standard of quality of life, Canada has a lot to offer to its residents.

Usually, people who are not citizens of Canada or who are not Permanent Residents have to apply for and obtain a work permit, in order to work in Canada. It can get quite confusing of which type of work permit to apply for, so here is an overview of the types of work permits in Canada

Open Work Permit

An open work permit refers to that type of work permit, which allows you to work for any employer in the territory of Canada, except for certain employers who were not able to follow the required conditions and those employers which may routinely offer escort services.

Employer-specific Work Permit

As the name suggests, the employer-specific work permit would enable you to work in Canada as per the conditions which have been mentioned on your work permit. These conditions include the name of the employer which you can work for, the time duration within which you can work along with the location of your work.

However, in the employer-specific work permit certain documentations would also have to be executed on the side of the employer as well. It would also involve the employer handing over a copy of the Labor Market Impact Assessment or the copy of the offer of employment number.
It is advised to consult a professional to know which type of permit you are eligible for.
